Magnetic Resonance Imaging Progam

Magnetic resonance imaging technologists are highly skilled professionals who use powerful magnets to obtain detailed images of the various structures in the human body. MRI technologists must have the ability to interact effectively with physicians and compassionately towards patients

Students enrolled in the MRI program will complete the Introduction to MRI / CT, Cross Sectional Anatomy and Pathology and MRI Physics courses. In addition, the student will complete 450 clinical hours to be done at two approved sites. Upon completion of coursework, clinical hours and required competencies, the student will be awarded a certificate of completion and will be eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) MRI certification exam.

COURSES

Introduction to MRI/CT:
This course is designed to provide an overview of various concepts of MRI and CT. It will cover concepts such as history, terminology, safety and screening, contrast and contraindications and basic principles of both modalities. This course is a prerequisite to the clinical course and Physics, unless permission is granted from the instructor. (2 Semester Credits)

Cross Sectional Anatomy and Pathology:
This is a core course for technologists with concentration in MRI or CT. This course familiarizes the student with cross sectional imaging and pathologic conditions of the human body. Images will be evaluated in the various imaging planes. (3 Semester Credits)

MRI Physics:
This course will provide the student with the physics related to obtaining a MRI signal. Topics will include gradients, pulse sequences, T1 and T2 relaxation time, and image analysis. (3 Semester Credits)

Clinical Course:
The MRI Program is 450 hours. Clinical hours must be completed at two different approved sites. Students are assigned to clinical sites during the first semester of the program based on site availability and student needs.

Students are responsible for completing specified competencies and fulfilling ARRT requirements.

Credits may not transfer to institutions of higher learning.
